Djerassi Residency
The Djerassi Resident Artist Program is tucked into foothills about 15 miles below Half Moon Bay (California) from where the site (some 1400 spectacular acres) overlooks the Pacific Ocean. I just finished a late Fall two week residency there. A time of great walks, snow on the upper ridges, incredible shifts in light and shapes. A great psychic roll in which to collapse, revive, make haptics, poems, and commence a long piece conjoining the several year’s work with my mom on her poems and what that has led to me discover about my history of growing up and living through the politics, history and landscape of this far west. More of that later as it all evolves and to what it may provide. In the short run, to give a sense of the Djerassi site and the landscape shifts, for your pleasure, here are a few photos:

The hexagonal barn at the bottom of this initial hill is where I lived, worked and jointly cooked among 5 other fellow artists. all of whom were alumni. (The winter months are reserved for alumni and comes without the cook provided during the rest of the year. We provided well for ourselves - produce, fish, wines - and we were good cooks with wonderful dinners!)

Looking up from the Barn to the top of the ridge.

Morning walk down from the ridge in the sunlight after a (rare) night of snowfall.

Field caught by the light of the setting sun.

Looking out over the Pacific - one of those eat your heart out Seurat/Innes moments.
Back now to life in the City and holidays. And a moment, or a long one, to salute the life and work of Larry Sultan who so sadly passed away yesterday. His presence as an extraordinary photographer and thinker, friend and mentor is a dear loss to the community. (Cancer)
